From 2006 to 2010: 125cm3

From Granollers in the outskirts of Barcelona in Spain, Pol Espargaro debuted in the 125 World Championship in 2006, just the year following his brother Aleix’s title. He clinched the Rookie of the Year title in 2007 for his first full campaign, in the category, and 2009 saw Espargaro take his first win at the Indianapolis Grand Prix.

2011 to 2013: The Intermediate class

After finishing third in the lightweight class in 2010, the Spaniard moved to the Moto2 World Championship in 2011 with the team Speed Up on a FTR Honda. His second season in the category the following year on a Kalex will be remembered for his title battle with training teammate Marc Marquez. Espargaro got off to a good start in 2012, winning the second race of the season in Catalunya, his first in the intermediate class. His eleven podiums landed him second of the championship behind his rival.  2013 was the year of achievement as he was crowned Moto2™ World Championship before moving up to MotoGP™

2014 to 2016: The Big Jump with Monster Yamaha Tech3

Pol was impressive during his first MotoGP™ in 2014. Despite 4 DNFs, he never finished lower than ninth and clinched the Rookie of the Year title, as well as being top Independent Team rider. 2015 was tougher but regularity was the headwork as he again always finished in the Top 10, despite a few DNFs. The following year was similar but he missed out on the title of top Independent Team rider to Cal Crutchlow. A fourth place was the best result of the native from Granollers with the Bormes-Les-Mimosas-based team.  

2017-2020: The KTM Adventure

Powered to the first ranks on the new KTM RC16 when he joined Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in 2017, Espargaro settled quickly as the team's top rider with some solid Top 10 results. The following season saw the Spaniard suffer injuries that curtailed his progress with the Austrian manufacturer. A step was clearly taken in 2019 when Pol finished the championship with 100 points, the result of consistency throughout the entire season. Hardwork eventually paid off in 2020 and Pol Espargaro was at the heart of the championship. He reached the podium five times, started from the pole position two times, and finished the season fifth in the championship, his best ever result in the MotoGP class after six years.

2021-2022: When Honda Calls, You’ve Got to Go

After his impressive 2020 campaign, Pol Espargaro made the noisy move of 2021 to Repsol Honda alongside eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez. If the first half of the season was about adapting to the RC213V, the light seemed to appear during the second half of the season, with Pol reaching the podium in the penultimate round in Misano. His second year with the Japanese manufacturer started well with a podium in the opening round in Qatar, but the rest of the year was tough, with only one finish inside the Top 10 in Portimao.

2023: Time to Get On The Gas!

Looking for a fresh breath after two difficult seasons, Pol Espargaro is joining back the Austrian manufacturer for 2023, and is set to become the ambassador of the Spanish brand GASGAS, property of the Pierer Mobility AG,  with the freshly rebranded GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3, team with whom he spent three years.
