Hafizh Syahrin was born on the 5th of May in 1994 in Ampang, Malaysia and he began racing with nine years, doing his first mini moto competitions. His talent was quickly discovered and he received the nick name ‘King of the Pocket Bikes’ in his native country Malaysia.

In 2009, he started to compete in the Malaysian Underbone, a popular series, that was created in partnership with the government of Malaysia’s Ministry of Youth and Culture to encourage youth to race in a controlled track environment rather than on the streets. Hafizh reached the podium in some races and ended in third overall. One year later, he went on to compete in the Asia Road Racing Championship and finished in 12th, before moving up to fourth in 2011.

He then moved to Spain in order to compete in the European Moto2 category of the FIM CEV Repsol Championship. In 2012, he also debuted in the World Championship with a wildcard ride in Moto2 in front of his home crowd at the Sepang International Circuit, where he crossed the line in fourth after fighting at the front throughout. Later he was promoted to third and celebrated his first ever World Championship podium.

In 2013, Hafizh ended the CEV season in third, with two wins to his name, before moving to the Moto2 World Championship the following year with Petronas Raceline Malaysia. He ended up in 19th at the end of his first year and was able to improve this result by the end of the 2015 season to 16th. In the course of 2016 and 2017 he took another two podium finishes and performed in a very impressive manner all throughout both years, concluding both seasons inside the top 10 of the highly-competitive intermediate class. 

Following a last-minute call Hafizh made history last February in being the first ever Malaysian rider to compete in the MotoGP class aboard the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP machine of Monster Yamaha Tech3. A promising test lead to a full-time ride for the Asian youngster, who was highly motivated to further unfold his talent fighting for good results. Thereby he reached the top 10 of the ultra-competitive field four times with a best result of 9th in difficult conditions at the Argentinean Grand Prix, plus a magical comeback from last to 10th at his home round in Sepang.

With one year of experience the Malaysian star initiates a new challenges together with Tech3 and KTM in 2019 and is eager to prove his skills with the KTM RC16 machine and the Red Bull KTM Tech3 Team.
