During the 13th weekend of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship at the MotorLand Aragón circuit, Iker Lecuona managed to gradually move forward. The Spanish youngster lowered his personal best from Friday already in FP3 this morning by 0.697 seconds. In Qualifying he did another step and went 0.321 seconds faster again. Thereby, he missed out on what could be a first Q2 entry this season by just 0.164 seconds, equaling his best grid position this year with P13.
At the same time, Danilo Petrucci struggled in FP3 this morning, but build some confidence during the fourth Free Practice this early afternoon. In Qualifying the Italian likewise showed a decent performance to eventually finish just 0.200 seconds behind his teammate in sixth position, which makes him line up in row six on the grid for tomorrow’s Gran Premio de Aragón at 14:00 local time.
"I’m quite satisfied with today. We improved a lot. In the morning we worked very hard and have been pretty close to the top guys. Everybody was so close together, so it was difficult to make it directly to Q2. I have a very consistent pace for the race and I feel very strong. Plus, I did one of my best Qualifyings this season and overall in the MotoGP class. Finally, I have a good base in order to fight for the top tomorrow."
"We had a decent Qualifying. I have a really good feeling on the bike, although it’s not perfect yet. The race tomorrow will be very tough, especially with regards to the choice of the rear tyre. I still struggle in acceleration, but we will try our best. I’m quite satisfied about today and we will try to further improve our feeling tomorrow morning."
